How to Convert Windows Server 2016 Standard Edition to Datacenter Edition

I am currently working on a little side project and spun up a virtual machine based on a Microsoft Windows Server 2016 image. I attemtped to install the Storage Replica feature to it and kept getting an error that the feature did not exist. Comes to find out that Storage Replica is only available on Datacenter edition and my image was based on Standard edition. I am in no mood to build out a new virtual machine so decided to use DISM to convert Standard to Datacenter and here is how you do it.

I launched PowerShell as an administrator and ran the following command:

dism /online /Set-Edition:ServerDatacenter /ProductKey:Datacenter-Product-Key /AcceptEula

Replace Datacenter-Product-Key with an actual product key and press the Enter key. DISM will do its thing and you should see something that looks like this when all is said and done:

C:\Windows\system32>dism /online /Set-Edition:ServerDatacenter /ProductKey:AAAAA-BBBBB-CCCCC-DDDDD-EEEEE /AcceptEula
